Reclaiming Ghana's Forest Heritage: The Imperative of Native Species Plantation

Forests play a vital role in supporting biodiversity, regulating the climate, and providing livelihoods for millions of Ghanaians. However, our forest cover has been under severe threat due to unsustainable practices and lack of effective management. To regain our position as a leader in forest and forest products, we need to prioritize the plantation of native species. These species are well-suited to our local climate and soil conditions, requiring less maintenance and support compared to exotic species.
